Al-Karkh University of Science held its first international scientific conference on oil explorations under the title of "Recent Applications of Geophysics and Remote Sensing Techniques in Petroleum Exploration" under the patronage of His Excellency the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and His Excellency the Minister of Oil with the attendance of specialists from various local and foreign universities, and in the presence of prominent academic, scientific and political figures.
The conference discussed scientific research in the fields of oil exploration and extraction, data management, processing and interpretation, and applications of nanotechnology, advanced materials, and GIS in oil explorations.
The conference included an exhibition of patents, which included more than 57 patents and industrial models as well as an exhibition of scientific posters within the conference.
The conference aims to review the oil and mineral resources in the country and the possibilities of investing them to show the importance of oil and mineral exploration in maximizing resources and economic revenues. The conference also focused on the ways of cooperation between companies and universities interested in the oil field.
Dr. Thamir said in a speech during the conference that the university seeks to provide a common space between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research in its university formations and between the specialized ministries and companies, as well as seeking to market the applicable patents and not keep them on shelves. The university also seeks to market scientific research that contributes to solve problems the oil sector faces and to support the Iraqi economy.
He added that the university is continuing its plan for vertical and horizontal expansion in the creation of specialized colleges and departments in harmony with the labor market, pointing to the University's readiness to hold a national symposium on gas strategies and investment, serving the important sector of energy sectors.
It is worth mentioning that the conference will be held in the Halls of the Cultural Center oil, with the support of Oil Exploration Company, Oil Center, Oil Research and Development Center, Al-Mustaqbal University College and Al-Rafidain University College, with the participation of researchers and specialists from Darmstadt University, Bonn University, Aachen University , the Russian University of Taiman, and the Turkish University of Ergis.
