What a beautiful morning to have and to be distinguished morning of the challenge in the travel of achievements and continuity of the hard work at our esteemed university, Al-Karkh University of Science.
It is a great honor for our university to hold its first international conference "Recent Applications of Geophysics and Remote Sensing Techniques in Oil Exploration" under the patronage of the Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research and His Excellency the Minister of Oil.
Under the exceptional circumstances of the lack of allocations and weak funding, the University, which was established in late 2014, has achieved a clear increase in its scientific, cultural and cognitive output as well as its excellence in the administrative and constructive fields and management of its financial and human resources. The fruit of this accomplishment has been represented by opening three rigorous colleges: the College of Remote Sensing and Geophysics, the College of Science whose departments are microbiology and medical physics, and more recently the College of Energy and Environmental Sciences. What distinguished the scientific output of the university is that its researchers obtained a number of more than ten patents as well as having advanced positions in the international activities and exhibitions. Its researchers participated in the publishing of the international publishing organizations, especially Clarvit and Scopus and they contributed in holding a large number of seminars, workshops, courses of the continuing education center inside and outside the university. Indeed, this indicates the investment years of foundation by hard work and proficiency, taking into account the speed and accuracy.
The presence of these sciences has created a common space between the academic and the industrial and technical aspects, so specialized colleges that focus on the edges of science to occupy a distinguished position amid the map of need and the outputs of these colleges will be able to meet the requirements of industrial and technical production.
This international conference, entitled Recent Applications of Geophysics and Remote Sensing Techniques in Oil Exploration, is designed to provide decision makers with solutions to some oil exploration problems through international researchers and experts in the field of geophysics and remote sensing and through experts and researchers in the oil sector. We are looking forward to strengthening the interaction between the Iraqi universities and the relevant ministries in addition to the integration of institutions. Our presence at this conference under the patronage of the Ministries of Higher Education and Oil is the starting point and the launch of more cooperation with the institutions of the Ministry of Oil. I would like to emphasize the next step, which will be represented by the establishment of a national symposium specialized in the field of gas strategies in Iraq which will represent a future event for the energy sector in Iraq and the world.
I assure you that our university has the responsibility to respond to the development of research plans in order to improve its research and scientific output and its outstanding students' outputs to provide the relevant ministries.
The members of our university have made a commitment to themselves that they spare no effort to achieve the objectives of the university.
We have to thank the General Secretariat of the Council of Ministers, represented by the former Secretary-General and Vice-Chairman of the Board of Counselors Mr. Hamid Khalaf Al-Musawi who helped us in granting us the main site in Hamada Palace to be a building for the presidency of the university. We cannot forget the support of His Excellency Prof. Dr. Ali Adib and Professor Dr. Hussein Shahristani, and thanks to our former Minister Dr. Abdul Razzaq Al-Issa for his direct support to the newly established universities, especially Al-Karkh University of Science who worked hard for strengthening their capabilities in providing the material and human requirements for the development of colleges. I can not fail to express my deep thanks to the Minister of Water Resources and the Minister of Higher Education, Dr. Jamal Al-Adly, and we would like to express our thanks and appreciation to His Excellency Mr. Jabbar Ali Hussein Laibi for his support and direct patronage of this conference. I would like to express the words of praise, thanks, and gratitude to the Minister of Oil, Mr. Thamir Abbas Al-Ghadhban who accepted our invitation to attend and participate in the conference through his representative, Mr. Karim Hattab Undersecretary of the Ministry of Exploration Affairs. I would also like to express my thanks and gratitude to the companies in the Ministry of Oil: Oil Exploration Company, Middle Oil Company, and Oil Research and Development Department and many thanks go to the Department of Private University Education and to the Deanships of Al-Mustaqbal University College and Al-Rafidain University College for their contributions to this conference.
Ladies and Gentlemen:
The joy of establishing this conference cannot be completed without the great sacrifices of our armed forces of all kinds and the popular mobilization, which gave Iraq security and freedom from terrorism by precious blood and precious souls. We ask God for the martyrs of Iraq mercy, forgiveness and eternity in Gardens of Bliss. We wish the wounded a speedy recovery and we wish patience and solace for their families.
Deep thanks for the members of this blessed conference of the preparatory, scientific, and supporting committees, and thanks to researchers and inventors for their participation who enrich the conference with their valuable research and inventions. We encourage them to take benefit from their research in relation to the application and not to keep their research only written in magazines and books.
